Ste Anne Girl In A League Of Her Own
I had such an incredible time creating, shooting, and editing this Ste Anne Girl In A League Of Her Own photo shoot. It's inspired by the 1992 movie, A League Of Their Own - which is a vintage style movie about an All Woman Baseball League. My basic idea was to try and use a Ste. Anne girl and to shoot it at a local baseball diamond. Keep it kind of Ste. Anne related if possible.
I put a "model request" in the Ste. Anne FB Page and began my search for the ideal candidate. I had a number of promising responses, but I settled on what I thought was the "Perfect Fit" - a young woman named Brittney Lynn Peters. It was meant to be - as I learned she played baseball at the top female level in Canada for several years. Wow - I couldn't have asked for a better model. Brittney has resided in Ste. Anne for the past 2 years.
I provided the uniform for the shoot and it was planned out for a nice day in early September. I did run into a few hiccups on this Ste Anne Girl In A League Of Her Own photo shoot. For instance - when we arrived at the Ste. Anne baseball diamonds on a Sunday afternoon - I saw that every diamond was occupied because of a baseball tournament. We zipped over to the Blumenort diamonds and carried on from there. I also ended up getting stung by a wasp - but thankfully at the very end of the session.
Brittney began playing baseball for a local Winnipeg Community Club (Southdale Lakers) when she was five years old. She really took to the sport and continued improving her skills. She told me she had incredible natural arm strength, which led her to play Catcher, as well as First Base. When she was about 14 years old she was selected to play for a Team in the Manitoba Games - and her team won the tournament. In the final game, she played it with a broken wrist and still managed to score the final and winning run.
While shooting this Ste Anne Girl In A League Of Her Own session, I learned that Brittney moved up to the highest level of baseball for women - namely A-Ball (Fast Pitch) when she was about 14 or 15 years old. The game is played with a softball, and the pitchers pitch using a windmill motion. The speeds of the pitches can be up to or close to hard ball pitches. She continued to play this high level till about 19 years old.
Brittney travelled throughout Canada and the U.S. for various tournaments. It was pretty much occupying her time 7 days a week during the season. In the off-season, she played Full Contact Men's Hockey up to the age of 17. Wow - this girl is quite the athlete! Her A-Ball team was called the Winnipeg Lightening and one of the highlights every year was playing in the finals at the Bloomberg Diamonds in Winnipeg.
This Ste Anne Girl In A League Of Her Own session could be available for any male or female looking to showcase their baseball skills. It doesn't necessarily have to be a vintage style shoot - as modern works just as well. I only currently have a Women's Medium sized "League Of Their Own" style uniform - but if you are a ballplayer - then we can certainly use your own uniform. I also want to take the time to thank Sarah Normandeau - who was kind enough to lend me the use of a professional Baseball Base/Bag. She is the Recreational Services Manager here in Ste. Anne.
Brittany tells me she is a big New York Yankees fan, which means we are arch enemies - just joking. I am a big Boston Red Sox fan as well as Toronto Blue Jays. For this Ste Anne Girl In A League Of Her Own set - I tried capturing a variety of baseball moments - including pitching, catching, hitting, and some dugout scenes. As a Nationally Accredited Photographer with the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) - I have been trained to try and create very dynamic and eye-popping images. I was blown away with how cool these final edits turned out.
In the above images I had some fun creating some interesting images with the aid of Photoshop. Brittney shows off her skills as she Bats and Catches at the same time. Brittney told me how exciting and fun the experience was for her. She said that it brought back so many memories of her "playing days".
That concludes my Ste Anne Girl In A League Of Her Own photo shoot with Brittney.
I finished it off with a "Pretend" Vintage Flyer showcasing an upcoming baseball game.
I also created a cool set of Vintage Baseball Cards featuring our STAR!
It was a pleasure getting know this talented athlete, and creating such a stunning set of images.
