This has been one of more Creative and Unusual Projects that I have done in a while. After seeing the images, you will understand why I titled it, Giant Winnipeg Street Photography. It's all about some Creative Compositing out on the streets of Winnipeg.
My project idea was to take some Street Pics of a female model and then attempt to make her look like a "50' Woman" amongst the Concrete of the City. Prior to the day of this shoot, I had to do a bunch of preplanning, for potential locations. I had to take into account the direction of the sun as well as poses fitting with the backgrounds.
I required one Model for this project, and I was having trouble coordinating schedules with a number of possible people. I was lucky enough to be able to schedule some time with a Lovely Lady who will also be a future client. Meet the very Beautiful Mariely. She's the whole package, as she is also such a warm positive-minded person. During our session, I managed to grab just a regular photo of her, amongst all the other "Giant" images.
This first Giant Composite was done off of St. Mary Ave. in the Down Town area. The first step was to take a variety of photos of my intended background - which was the Building. I was shooting at about 28mm to give a nice wide-angle approach. I took about 20 shots of the building with various angles.
After that it was time to get Mariely into action. She had on a more Fashion Style outfit for this image and I photographed her right next to the building. I used the same camera perspective and lens so as to keep it realistic. It was impossible to tell if I had a pose that would work. I sort of had to envision a building next to my model and pose her accordingly.
I then brought both images and a few pieces from other images into Photoshop and had to combine them and edit them accordingly. This was the final edit on image number one.
This second image was done in the same location, but I wanted to try a different pose. I also added in an airplane from a Stock Photo, to add some extra visual interest to the final image in this Giant Winnipeg Street Photography project.
I showcased the final edit in Full Size, as otherwise the smaller display would have cropped out the airplane.
During my pre-planning - I saw the old Bank of Montreal at Portage/Main, and I really wanted to do something with that Iconic Building. I had some Vintage Money Bags, and I envisioned my model standing over the bank with her bundles of Cash.
I should mention that I was using the Sun as my Key Light {Main Light) for all my shots - as I wanted it to be more of a Street Photography kind of look. Normally for a client shoot - I would not photograph a person in the open sun in mid-day, due to the harsh shadows. But this was exactly what I wanted for all of my images.
There was a lot of guesswork as to posing Mariely, who was photographed one block over from the bank. I actually used several images for this final shot, as I added some vehicles to the foreground. I also added a second bag in her left hand, from a different photo of her.
The next image in my Giant Winnipeg Street Photography project, was the Sexy Construction Worker. During my pre-planning phase, I noticed these huge red Cranes near the corner of St. Mary Ave. and Edmonton St. As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to try something with them.
After shooting the background images, I had my model try a variety of poses. Some of them involved pretending to be holding on to the Crane. I had other photos of Mariely, just posing while standing, just in case I couldn't line things up properly. It all seemed to turn out pretty good. I also added a pedestrian and some vehicles from other background shots.
This is the final image from my Giant Winnipeg Street Photography project. This location was at the end of Lombard and next to the Winnipeg Goldeyes Stadium. I wanted to try something with a model straddling a bridge or a skywalk. This location served my purpose well.
I actually had to use two background images and blend them together to get that faraway portion of the train bridge in the shot. I flipped the "model photo" as her body position better fit the scene. I also added a vehicle from another photo and of course I threw in the balloon, just to add some fun and more Red Colour "Pop".
That concludes this project, and I can say I've definitely learned a lot regarding compositing. Very important that the images you are combing in your final photo, all match up with lighting and perspective. Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did creating it.
